Selecting the Best Color Scheme

One of the most commonly asked questions of designers is, "What are the latest colors and trends?"

While I am glad to tell you what's new in the marketplace, I'd add a strong caution to that information. If you have the budget to redecorate every 3 years or so, you may certainly go with the trends and fashions of the day. But few of us can furnish a home properly and then change it constantly. As a result, it is important to think about better reasons to determine a color scheme than the fads of the day. If you find that in the past you've gotten tired of color schemes quickly, you are in for a delightful discovery. When the furnishings and colors you have selected are the best for the space, they will actually begin to grow on you. You won't get tired of them easily and they will provide years and years of pleasure.

But determining the very best colors for your project is complex. Remember the old saying, "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing"? Below is the first in a series of things to consider and to share with your designer. Color mistakes are expensive! Color, done well, is rewarding in countless ways. Let's get started.
